Our farm is situated in a small village called Neuilly La Foret, just outside the market town of Isigny Sur Mer. The village is set on a hill overlooking the open countryside of the Bessin National Park, with its abundance of wildlife and fauna. The area is a registered hiking route and ideal for cycling and fishing, (the rivers Vire and Elle cross the fields within a couple of kilometers of the property).
The surrounding area is of historical interest, from the village’s notre dame 14th century church, to the nearby 16th century chateau, and of course the memories of the ‘D-day’ landings.
Approximately 5 km away is the bustling market town of Isigny, which has lost its seaside to encroaching silt at the mouth of the river Vire, but has gained rich surrounding pastures giving it the world famous Isigny Saint Mer dairy products (which is open to the public), and hosts a variety of essential shops, cafes, restaurants and the extremely impressive hotel-de-ville which was once a 17th century chateau and home of the Bricqueville family until 1821.
New for 2017 Our recently acquired carp lake is situated 15km away in a small village called Meautis just outside Caretan
Carentan. With its massive 14th century Eglise Notre-Dame one of the finest gothic churches in the whole of Normandy, dominating the skyline with its octagon – spired belfry. Below, the 16th century Arcades offer a wide range of shopping. Both Carentan and Isigny offer marina facilities, and the mouth of the Vire and Douve join at these two towns making it renowned for its sailing.
Looking towards the sea the much promoted holiday resort of Grandcamp Maisy (10 km) at the west end of Omaha beach has good views west across the Baie Des Veys to the cotentin peninsula. The resort has kept its old port still harboring a small fleet of fishing boats and with the regular fish markets and street markets, this is a definite place to visit, its 13th century church is worthy of inspection as well.
