Here we will put any lake news

October 8th

We have put in planning permission to extend the guest chalet to give 2 separate bedrooms, fingers crossed it is accepted and we can then build it ready for the 2018 season

September 1st

We are actively feeding the fish in areas and already noticed that they are travelling the lake a lot more now plus the new main bank growth has been a big hit with the carp regularly patrolling this bank now DSCF5558

Plus it is enjoyed by the wildlife with us seeing many more insects, butterflies, bees and birdsDSCF5551

March 21st

The main bank has always looked bare to us so this year we are allowing a border to grow back in areas and planting to make it more natural , we think this will encourage the fish to patrol this area more and allow easier stalking and margin fishing

December 15th

Winter has arrived, trees lost their leaves, we had a cold snap when the whole lake froze and we seem to have a colony of ducks and other water fowl camped out for Xmas. The lake still looks lovely even in winter and the carp are still showing. We are weekly feeding and they are loving it, Juliet took advantage of a feeding session and pulled out 3 carp from 5lb to 15lb and a stray rudd 1/2lb which was a surprise! Thanks to Pat and his autumn catch reports,        I think he has managed more fishing than I have!                 We look forward to next year and will keep working on improvements making “Carp Haven” even  better.         Merry Christmas HO! HO!  HO!

September 12th we have had a second “D - Day” landing at the lakeIMAG0861

Welcome Pat Scott and his rather fetching American jeep! Our latest day fisherman has tracked down our lake and we will post his catch reports soon

July 1st fresh blood to the lake David Bedwani hooks a goodun  24 1/2 lbsGEDC0226

June 3rd BIG DAY. We signed and now own the lake. After a hectic run around moving stuff we finally settled down to a bit of light float fishing to relax, after quite a few nice size 1/2lb roach out popped this fella which kept my son amused trying to pose for a picture! PICT0058

It didn't end there, while I was off putting the kettle on, my wife decided to hook into a 20lb plus carp on maggots and 5lb line with a John Wilson avon rod! After a 20 minute fight we finally managed to land him for a necessary photo  shoot, I should have taken the picture and got her to hold the fish, but she was complaining of arm ache after the battle, excuses!PICT0061a

April 24th had a spare afternoon so a quick stalking session seemed to be the best option plus the first chance to get my son off his computer and give it a go, glad he did as he managed 2 of the 5 carp caught

PICT0050

April 18th had the opportunity to fish the lake, rude not to accept and glad we did as we managed 5 carp without really trying the best being a 20 lb common so the future is looking good, also got some good size rudd and roach PICT0033

Pat’s diary so far 8th october

Pat fishes the lake on a regular basis every few weeks for a day and has built an impressive catch log catching well over 1000 lb of carp on 13 sessions here are 2 of his best:-

9th May:  Fished from 6am - 8pm RED LETTER DAY! 27 carp from 10lbs to 27lbs with 2 other 20’s to boot! Most fish 15 - 19lbs and all bar one taken on method feeder.  3 cormorants on lake at first light, saw coypu on a couple of occasions.  Fantastic day in wonderful surroundings.  Cheers Pat

25th September: Here at first light, torrential rain until midday.  A lot of leaves on the surface made fishing difficult but manageable.  Fished 3 rods at range with method and pepperami hook bait and had 17 carp to 21lbs.  Mainly mirrors but a lovely common at 18lbs.  Also snuck a couple out of the corner by the gate using floating chickpea hook bait.  Saw heron, stork, buzzards and kingfisher! Cheers Pat

August 17th

Spent a very enjoyable few days fishing this lovely lake. Apart from plenty of hard fighting carp all in pristine condition had 3 good sized eels on float fished maggots and also some baby carp about 3 inches which bodes well for the future . Great fun catching carp on floating crust from the wind blown scum in the corner of the lake during the hot weather . the margins and the overhanging vegatation by the bull rush beds proved particularly productive

5 October

3 rods in and fishing by first light.

Couldn’t have got off to a worse start with bird’s nest tangle on first cast meaning having to re-rig!  Second cast with same rod overshot mark and ended up in a tree!  Cast same rod a third time and by the time I’d put it in its rest, it was off!  15lb 8oz mirror – good job!
As this fish was on unhooking mat a second rod roared off.  This fish got snagged so I had to row out in boat to free it.  Eventually landed another mirror at 18lb 10oz.  That was at 8.30an.  Packed up at 6pm with no further action.

Another enjoyable day, though weather was very changeable.
Cheers Chris

23rd September

Weather fair all day – mild in morning & bright sunny afternoon and evening.

Felt optimistic after initial visit on Tuesday, but very slow start.  Began fishing at 7am and didn’t have first fish till     11.30 am – an 8lb common.

This was followed by an 8lb mirror and a 9lb mirror before all spots went quiet.  Then, at about 5pm, I cast and had a take before I’d even set the bobbin.  After a hairy 10 minute scrap, I landed a pristine 22 lb mirror.  Well chuffed!  What a spot, I absolutely love it!

6.30 rod almost pulled off the pod!  Lengthy scrap and another 20 ready for the net but threw hook just as I was bringing him over the net cord!  Packing up and had 11 lb mirror on last rod.  Thought I’d recast it whilst I loaded car and had a 15 lb mirror.
Amazing day.

Fished for 5 days.  Nice & relaxed 10.00am to 7-8.00pm.  56 carp totalling 727 lb, and 1 eel & some roach and rudd.  Most enjoyable, fish to the trees.  Paste around your boilie was what made the difference.  Too shallow to spod effectively.  Top week.  Biggest carp 22 lb, several others over 20lb.

I stayed day and night at this beautiful carp lake in France in June 2016. I have been fishing a few times in England and have never caught anything - I was only fishing a few hours at Carp Haven and caught a beautiful carp, this place is lovely and peaceful, I would highly recommend it.  I will be back next year and I can't wait.
